Re: farming update - ie growing shrooms in your basement
okay next round:
Edit: In my opinion Cotton Nr. 3 is the best of the cotton plants. The barrley is a mirrored copy of the wheat with a longer head.
Equipment from left to right:
1st row: Mash tun, Copper kettles No.1, Copper kettles No.2, Hopback, Fermentation tower
2nd row: Grain mill (4 tiles for animated), Grape press No.1
3rd row: Olive press (2 tiles), Grape press No.2 (2 tiles), shitty spinning wheel
Kettles No.2 can directly be connected to hopbackand I think the red basement looks better. Fermentation can take place in keg or barrel depending on what should be done, the tower isn't looking too good anyways. I think the grape press No.2 looks better cause its smaller and the spinning wheel - I don't know something looks wrong put I cannot put my finger on it.
Edit: I feel those tiles are not really finished (too many colors used - looks blurred), maybe someone else could use my tiles either as an inspiration to make better ones from stretch or work on those i uploaded. I don't have the time to do it myself before my vacations.

I grew and harvested mushrooms in my basement with no problems after the sun was fixed, but haven't tried ginseng.

Same here, but I'm growing ginseng right now. Although I have my own little bug with mushrooms, somehow I obtained a seed (mushroom), but they're sold as spores.L1ndaP wrote:I grew and harvested mushrooms in my basement with no problems after the sun was fixed, but haven't tried ginseng.
Edt- I also have a blood moss seed, I think they were just sold as seeds or something.

Ok after several crops here's the only real bugs I can find:
after young plant stage for blood moss it disappears and looks like dirt (due to no gfx for it I guess). Stays this way until mature/harvestable
young ginseng plant displays ("young potatoe plant (crop:ginseng)"after young plant stage for blood moss it disappears and looks like dirt (due to no gfx for it I guess). Stays this way until mature/harvestable

Re: farming update - ie growing shrooms in your basement
Just to see what happens I've started growing various plants in what used to be my house library, which gets sunlight all day long so it should have any problems with that. Not sure if there are tiles actually marked "outside" or "outdoors" so I could be aiming for fail, but even then it's a fun experiment
They say insanity is bad, but it hasn't killed me yet.

house maps are outside, the only inside/underground maps are basement
ie if the sun shows it's outside - if not, it's inside/underground

Re: farming update - ie growing shrooms in your basement
ok so lots of plants weren't growing - took rurik to bug me about it - but here's hoping it's fixed now shame it takes them so long to grow, in order see if they are growing or not

Re: farming update - ie growing shrooms in your basement
Since I wasn't satisfied with my tiles for beer brewing and nobody else has contributed yet, I am thinking about something else. So I started to read about brewing on wikipedia in detail. In the end I think brewing should be done with a pot, stove and a keg as well as the ingredients grain, water, hop and yeast. The only new thing we need would be a mill (which doesn't look so bad in the post above).
In Detail:
Malting (in detail):
1) Stepping: Grain + Water + Barrel
2) Germination: Drying -> Green Malt
3) Kilning: Green Malt + Cooking Pot + Stove -> Malt
Malting (Short): Grain + Water + Cooking Pot + Stove -> Malt
Milling: Malt + Mill -> Milled Malt
Mashing/Lautering/Boiling (in detail):
1,2) Milled Malt + Cooking Pot + Stove + Sieve -> Wort
3) Wort + Hop + Cooking Pot + Stove
Mashing/Lautering/Boiling: Milled Malt + Cooking Pot + Stove + Hop + Sieve -> Wort
Fermenting Process: Wort + Yeast + Keg -> Beer

I don't think anyone could contribute compared to that work. It looks great IMHO. I guess its a good thing you over criticize yourself as those last pics were excellent.

Thanks - but the tiles are really blurred.Keighn wrote:I don't think anyone could contribute compared to that work. It looks great IMHO. I guess its a good thing you over criticize yourself as those last pics were excellent.
Anyways I worked on the Mill, Loom, Grape Press and Copper. I think it looks better now: Due to my vacations in Croatia I have to admit that the Mill (as can be seen in this post) is actually the traditional instrument to press olives - this makes the ugly Olive Press in my previous post obsolete. But I think the Mill should be used for olives and grain respectively.

Would you mind posting those next to the previous ones all in that same large size. I think others would love to see the comparision up close. And I still say they're all damn nice.

Re: farming update - ie growing shrooms in your basement
Sorry, I had a busy start into the new week and had totally forgotten that I promised to post a revised version of the brewing steps:
Malting (Short): Grain + Water + Copper -> Malt
Milling: Malt + Mill -> Milled Malt
Mashing/Lautering/Boiling: Milled Malt + Water + Hop + Copper + Sieve -> Wort
Fermenting Process: Wort + Yeast + Keg -> Beer
For "Copper" see my post above. Adding brains (Int), mino heart (str), fish (dex) while lautering/boiling to get different beers.

Re: farming update - ie growing shrooms in your basement
- plants next to water/river/swamp tiles don't need to be watered, e.g.: irrigation systems.
- irrigation systems could as well be part of mine terraforming.
- plants/tiles surrounded by more than 5 water-tiles will drown and the tile will be transformed to a swamp.
- lava as "grow light" for plants that normally don't grow underground (mine terraforming).
- Plants must be separated by on tile from lava because of the heat. Efficient light/heat radius is 2 tiles.
- plants/tiles surrounded by more than 9 lava-tiles will burn and the tile will be transformed to desert.
- Swamps can be transformed by lava to dirt tiles.
- Deserts can be transformed by water to dirt tiles.

Re: farming update - ie growing shrooms in your basement
just finished brewing (NOT LIVE YET)
it's kinda simplified a little, but anyway here's how it works
-req 50 cooking skill
-requires copper (it's a stovetop one if such a thing ever existed)
-added barley crop, same grow time as wheat
-added hops crop
i) use copper on stove to convert barley grains and water into malt (the step of drying the malt and milling it has been omitted) - this is called steeping
ii) use copper on stove to make 3 types of wort (pale, stout, mead worts) - req sugar, water, malt, hops, small barrel + either slime, heart or brain
iii) now take your wort barrel made in step ii and use it in your home to create a beer keg
iv) wait 7 EUO days for it to ferment
v) use empty bottles (avail at farm supplies) on the keg to create up to 50 beers
- requires house
- barely and hops only available by farming
- keg does not go off
- wort barrel & beers can be traded of course
I might revise the recipes for the beers to reflect more IRL stout/mead/ale recipes

Mead was made from honey if I remember correctly, at least I think that's what they said in Ultima 7.
