EUO Boomer Shooter - the EUO FPS

Post by eggmceye »

:alarm: EUO Boomer Shooter :alarm:

You might like this if you like Quake/Doom/Wolfenstein &/or even EUO!

brand new game
single player retro-styled first person shooter
15 levels +1 secret level
3 weapons
6 tunes
5 enemies + 1 boss at the end

DOWNLOAD
build 1002 (final) : https://eggmceye.itch.io/euo-bs - updated 16/5/23

SOUNDTRACK!
https://eggmceye.bandcamp.com/album/euo ... hooter-ost

blast your way thru the newbie dungeon with a musket in 2 mins:

Dungeons are taken from EUO and are (automagically) turned into 3d FPS maps. Even maped is used as the map editor for this game.

Without spoiling too much, the first lot of maps are:
* Nordhaven Jail
* Newbie Dungeon
* The Sewers
* Nordhaven ... which is a bit different to how you may remember it
* Trolls lair .. - which has been revised and expanded

To state the not-so-obvious, this is not an EUO client, nor an RPG. It's a first person shooter, like Doom, but set in the EUO world. It's single player and depending on skill should be able to complete it between 30 and 60 mins.

history
In 2016 I started this project, in Unity, and soon posted this vid:

then I forgot about it until about Sept 2022, and since then I have worked on it mostly non stop. And now you have this:

Many assets, mostly static furniture etc, is reused from moagl, while monsters and weapons are new. Mostly new sound. New music which I whipped up over a few days.

I wanted to try this out since you first posted screenshots! Gave it a try and it reminded me a lot of duke nukem/quake with an euo skin. I got to the end of newbie dungeon so far. I'll write up more when I get further into the game.

Is it possible to move the game window over to a second monitor? I have a TV attached to this laptop and wanted to take the party to the big screen.

2 ways (my friend figured this out) as he had same problem: (I can't test either of these)
1) hit alt enter, which forces to window mode, then move it. then alt enter again to go back to fs

2) run game from command line, with monitor selection as a parameter:

Code: Select all

EUO\ Boomer\ Shooter.exe   -screen-fullscreen 1 -monitor 2

finally:
also there used to be a dialog that showed at the start of every unity game when it started, but that's disappeared. I can try and enable that in a new build, and that should let you choose the monitor and the resolution etc!

Both options work well, thanks! For option #2 I created a short cut then added the command line parameters in the Target line at the end (highlighted in yellow in screenshot below).

non english PC's need decimals written as 0,5 - not 0.5 ! :fp:

Yeah it is working now. Played a little bit, pretty fun game - died when 3d headless rushed at me on second dungeon level. Would be cool if you'd be able to remap keys tho - I'm so used to have "jump" button in FPS games under right mouse button that it took me a while to adjust :smile:

I actually fixed it in code and should work now wihtout farting around wtih .txt files

build 1002 https://eggmceye.itch.io/euo-bs

re remapping: I have a feeling that can be done thru unity - this is just a unity game - I wonder if there is some standard unity config file that can be edited to change key maps

I've posted a maped version to use with euo bs. It is the same as regular euo maped but with trimmed down dat files to make picking spawners and items easier.

https://eggmceye.itch.io/euo-bs/devlog/ ... map-editor

Extract the files into your boomer shooter directory, and if you did it correctly there should be a maped.exe, some new files in the dat directory, a new pics directory and a file called monsters.txt (alongside monsters2.txt) in the sdat directory.

If you're interested in Unity keybinds, here's what I know:

If it's using the default Unity InputManager, the controls should be adjustable in Edit > ProjectSettings > InputManager, though this only supports two buttons per keybind (it does seem like there are unintuitive ways of adding more than two buttons, if you're interested in looking that up).
UnityInputManager.jpg
Alternatively, the InputSystem package (installable from Window > PackageManager > InputSystem) gives a bit more control over keybinds, and provides better controller support. However it takes a while to set up, and you'd have to replace the Input.GetAxis() and Input.GetKeyDown() calls with Unity Events.
UnityInputSystem.jpg
On the player's side, I assume a short AutoHotkey script could work? There's also third party programs such as 'X-Mouse Button Control' that can let you bind your mouse buttons for any application.
