What about some sort of light source for growing plants in basement? Maybe a torch that lasts so long, or LM suggested maybe a glowing orb, for those of us who don't own the top part of the house, or don't own the basement... Maybe a cover or something for growing mushrooms and bloodmoss on the top floor of the house?

The basements map is technically an above ground map. Is this going to be a problem when growing things that need to be underground?

My mushrooms in my basement aren't growing either, they are still seeds.

Sprout is misspelled per Rusty

To Keighn ---Renovation wands can be used over and over.

Suggestions: 'Looking' at the seed/plant should tell you if it needs watering, because while out hunting, etc. you lose track of the day/night
Water wells in every town, now with farming and cooking. Some already have them.
Pots to grow plants in

Good job and thanks to Egg and Lord Mort. I think this is just the kind of feature that gets players more interested in EUO and compels them to keep playing.

One thing I noticed, I destroyed some plants with a hoe, and on some (but not all) of the tiles, I can no longer plant anything. It says something is already planted there when I try.

Not sure if it's random, or depends on what I planted (sorry, don't remember for sure what was planted in what position).

I tried covering over it with a tile and removing it, watering the dirt, etc. Nothing so far. Maybe it'll go away eventually.

Maybe I didn't read closely enough, but if you're not logged on will your plants wither and die or are they in a sort of suspended animation (carbonite freeze of sorts) until you log on?

mud with your dud plants, I think I fixed that - but you will have to reuse the hoe on them now to clear them once and for all. It would eventually die of oldage or not watered but thats 2 weeks/30 days.

you can tell if there is a dud plant by watering that tile - if you get 'plant watered' there is a plant there - if you get 'the ground gets wet' there is nothing.

what happened I think was that a bug in harvest code didn't actually delete the plant but some how its growth stage was advanced to an invalid one for that plant. It migth still be buggy so please report any probs.

farming will be a skill eventually once the kinks are ironed out

Farming is great. And those young plants you did fit perfectly to the rest.
I think ikea could need an expansion - I would like to buy a well for my house as well as path/road tiles and maybe a bridge.
Anyways do you have any ideas for more plants like hop or wine, or animals like cows that need grass tiles to feed on and a water place to prosper and give milk ?

thx - those young plants are just copies of yours with a few pixels removed

need a mill to convert wheat->flour
need press to convert olives->olive oil
cotton plant -> cotton -> loom -> cloth for tailoring
how do you convert beet->sugar crystals?

I can kinda see the current crops taking up horticulture skill to about 50, then maybe 50+ can be used to grow more exotic plants from rare seeds

brewing:
barley, hops, wheat for beer
plums and grapes for wine
I'm unsure how far to take brewing - depends how dwarves use alcohol

beer:
depends how complex you want to make it:
brewing.gif
grain+water->mash->keg->ferment->bottle

wine:
grapes->press->keg->ferment->bottled

spirits
mash->ferment->distilled->bottled

herds
I haven't thought at all about it but it could be interesting

Guess it would be enough to slice the beets and cook them, extract the aqueous phase and heat it up for evaporation. This won't yield high purity sugar crystals but should be efficient. Guess the product will be more like a syrup. Other way might be use of alcohol to extract it.
As for brewery i think the copper tower (kettles) is the most prominent equipment in a brewery, so this should have high priority in my opinion.
I will try to make some tiles before i go on vacations, but i cannot promise anything. Especially the tools seem to be complicated to make. ehh and my house got just updated so i have to renovate a little bit - THANKS EGG

Watered my crop of plants and went to bed at around 9pm last night.
Woke up then later logged on at 7:30sh AM.

Ginseng still hasn't grown even while I've been logged on (performing an experiment to see if i'm right as I planted another crop now) My suspicions were right and now have a crop.
My bloodmoss crop has vanished overnight. Ground still says planted so I'm a tad befuddled... I rewatered them now.. hopefull they resprout.

EDIT -
Seems my mushrooms only get 1 yield of harvest and I have to replant them. :/
Other crops seem stunted. 1 EUO day has passed and only my freshly planted mushrooms and ginseng has seen growth.

Might be a bit of a stretch to ask, but perhaps allow forest/swamp tiles to work in towns to harvest nightshade and mandrake (which probably opens up logging/fishing/mining though.. as those are all continent attributes).

Perhaps an indicator that you've watered your plants for the day. i.e. "[plant name] already watered."
When "l"ooking maybe say name with addendum - "watered" if it was watered.
Indicator on what was planted "[plant name] planted." xxx seed/spore is enough to see..
Sun/moon display next to time for pocketwatch (helpful when hunting in dungeons as a reminder).

Another small bug when looking at young ginseng. It displays "you see a young potatoe plant [crop: ginseng]."
Bloodmoss is either missing a few stages of growth for tiles(goes to blank dirt) or is not working correctly. crop registers there but I don't see anything.. disappeared either from sprout or young plant...

Watering to be sure.

Suggestiong: Garden supplier sells Renovation wands, buckets, and hoes, and maybe water too for the uber rich and lazy. (not me by a long shot).
Hopefully oil stays in. It could be used for other crafting or tuning rusty objects or even flaming oil/boiling oil in castles, oil slicks to make mobs slip. (that and I bought a lot of it).
ZUPS!!!!
