How exactly is the damage from mana burn caclulated? Sometime I hit in the hundreds, but when I cast it agin on the same creature it sometimes hits for only 5 damage.

Some mobs, like dragons, become immune to mana burn after they heal (if you noticed, when fighting a dragon it can heal itself almost fully). Before that, you can hit them for 100s of damage but after wards, no joy. It's a feature, to make gameplay more interesting.

Mana burn damage is based on the amount of mana the enemy has. The reason mobs are affected in the way you describe is that mobs only have mana for purposes of healing (so mobs can cast their spells indefinately, but can't heal indefinately). Once a mob has no mana left, mana burn does no damage.

This is most evident in dragons (I'm making assumptions now) because they have enough mana to heal once, and once they have, they have no mana. Hence IJO does a lot of damage pre-heal, and none afterwards. See?

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Kus, as much as i do prefer your (almost mathematical) explanation over my high-level (kind of magical almost) one, how does that explain these:
- killing vampires with IJO (there, if someone did not know.. now you do)
- killing *-shaman (* stands for any) with IJO
(and others...)

Do understand I liked what you said and it does make sense...

Unless, when your IJO exceeds the mana value on the mod, it causes HP reduction? Must not be that, since even though I can't one-IJO a drag, when I do it, it also loses HP.

Someone shed a light on this, please? :knife:

Kus is right, mana burn damage is based on enemy mana. Monsters have mana only for healing purposes, but not all of them are able to heal. Once monster is out of mana, mana burn does no damage to him. Same goes for players - try to IJO some high level mage when he has full mana, and same person when he's out of mana. Or alternatively, you can try to repeatly IJO and XVM any magic using monster. You'll see difference.

Other posts are accurate on the healing monsters. The 5 damage you caused would reflect the + on your staff. Similar to most any attack spell cast upon SW would cause only the + of your weapon in damage.

IJO is a powerful spell, if used quickly in a fight. See if you can survive long enough to hit a Balron 5 times with it, diminishing returns.

Mana burn, burns mana, and takes hp with it.

When there is no mana to burn, it doesn't do any damage.

Hey so I haven't played for a while and I know how to shrink the screen when you have logged in but I forget how to make the game run in normal mode when you start it instead of full screen.

There's the euo.exe and the euolauncher.exe. Use the launcher. It give you the option to switch servers, start with music, start in fullscreen mode or not, and select characters for that server.

Or you can open client.cfg with notepad and set

Code: Select all

Fullscreen=0

A few q's from my mind:

I was testing out UA in pd with me human rogue. I did 70-80 damage per hit with the following gear:

Ironfist cap
darkweave gloves of magic resistance + 4
amulet of nightvision + 4
ring of nightvision + 4
Mageband

Then I changed to this:

Ironfist cap
gloves of attack + 7
amulet of nightvision + 4
ring of nightvision + 4
Mageband

and I was doing 50-55 damage per hit! How can this be? Full UA gear, 100 in tactics, 100 in ua.

On my half troll fighter who's dualing axe+longsword I tested something.
If you use your weapon special and try to use any spell after, there is no cooldown.
If you use a spell and try to use your weapon secial after, there is a cooldown.

Is this intended?

Tinted gloves (darkweave). A bug IMHO being that one is of attack and the other not.

Alright, another thing:

I've killed hundreds and hundreds of boss balrons, dragons, daemons and shadowfoe (excluding shadowlord bosses, haven't seen any yet).

The interesting thing is, I haven't found ANY artifacts from balrons or the shadowfoe. All my artifacts are from dragons or the former cartography chests. Also, weapons with spell enchants are from dragons too. So what's up with this? Are spell enchants considered as plain +5 and are "too low" for balron to a drop, in that case?

So why should I keep killing balrons / shadowfoe? They *might* drop +30 stat gear and are 2x xp compared to dragons, but dragons can drop trans wands (got 4 this month), money, and in my case, the most artifacts / spell enchanted weaponry.

So am I right or been terribly unlucky with balrons / shadowfoe? :rage:

Oh and abt daemons: Found one spell enchanted weap so far, quess I was lucky X-D

EDIT: Haven't found any XMP or AEP weapons so far, and only one XJ. Most of them weaps are AM/VAM/OG. Is this again just bad luck, or is this intended (I supposed XJ/AEP/XMP should be the rarest, as they are the best imo)?

PS: Not ranting here, just trying to figure what's up X-D

It's just bad luck, I've founded at least several enchants/artifacts from balrons, daemons and shadow monsters.

I have found a warriors band off of a shadow warrior. Most of the enchants I've found are usually off of either golems or devils (typical am, vam crap though). I did find an aep off of an earth golem.

Alright, thanks for your answers.
I think I still stick to dragons, since they got cool names and such, and the occasional transfer wands.

Speaking of transfer wands, anyone care to compile a list of creatures that have dropped a transfer wand or res stone(pd/ng only obviously). I'm curious if cows or rabbits have dropped them. Anyone fine such on newb isle?

I believe that every monster which is dropping regular crap(eg. meat, blank scrolls, regular yellow potion, etc.) is able to drop transfer wand.

But that's just my guess.

I second that.
Like Heniek said, I think they drop from mobs which drop crafting goods.
