Dear Djanno, that was a true classic. May I now post it as a somewhat different classic, bidding you all a good yulenight:

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the shop,
The computers were whirring; they never do stop.
The power was on and the temperature right,
In hopes that the input would feed back that night.

The system was ready, the program was coded,
And memory drums had been carefully loaded;
While adding a Christmasy glow to the scene,
The lights on the console, flashed red, white and green.

When out in the hall there arose such a clatter,
The programmer ran to see what was the matter.
Away to the hallway he flew like a flash,
Forgetting his key in his curious dash.
He stood in the hallway and looked all about,
When the door slammed behind him, and he was locked out.

Then, in the computer room what should appear,
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer;
And a little old man, who with scarcely a pause,
Chuckled: "My name is Santa...the last name is Claus."

The computer was startled, confused by the name,
Then it buzzed as it heard the old fellow exclaim:
"This is Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
And Comet and Cupid and Donder and Blitzen."

With all these odd names, it was puzzled anew;
It hummed and it clanked, and a main circuit blew.
It searched in its memory core, trying to "think";
Then the multi-line printer went out on the blink.

Unable to do its electronic job,
It said in a voice that was almost a sob:
"Your eyes - how they twinkle - your dimples so merry,
Your cheeks so like roses, your nose like a cherry,

Your smile - all these things, I've been programmed to know,
And at data-recall, I am more than so-so;
But your name and your address (computers can't lie),
Are things that I just cannot identify.

You've a jolly old face and a little round belly,
That shakes when you laugh like a bowl full of jelly;
My scanners can see you, but still I insist,
Since you're not in my program, you cannot exist!"

Old Santa just chuckled a merry "ho, ho",
And sat down to type out a quick word or so.
The keyboard clack-clattered, its sound sharp and clean,
As Santa fed this "data" to the machine:

"Kids everywhere know me; I come every year;
The presents I bring add to everyone's cheer;
But you won't get anything - that's plain to see;
Too bad your programmers forgot about me."

Then he faced the machine and said with a shrug,
"Merry Christmas to All," as he pulled out its plug!

Summer Magic by Leslie Pinckney Hill

So many cares to vex the day,
So many fears to haunt the night,
My heart was all but weaned away
From every lure of old delight.

Then summer came, announced by June,
With beauty, miracle and mirth.
She hung aloft the rounding moon,
She poured her sunshine on the earth,
She drove the sap and broke the bud,
She set the crimson rose afire.
She stirred again my sullen blood,
And waked in me a new desire.

Before my cottage door she spread
The softest carpet nature weaves,
And deftly arched above my head
A canopy of shady leaves.

Her nights were dreams of jeweled skies,
Her days were bowers rife with song,
And many a scheme did she devise
To heal the hurt and soothe the wrong.

For on the hill or in the dell,
Or where the brook went leaping by
Or where the fields would surge and swell
With golden wheat or bearded rye,
I felt her heart against my own,
I breathed the sweetness of her breath,
Till all the cark of time had flown,
And I was lord of life and death.

I years had been from home by Emily Dickinson, 1862

I years had been from home,
And now, before the door,
I dared not open, lest a face
I never saw before

Stare vacant into mine
And ask my business there.
My business,—just a life I left,
Was such still dwelling there?

I fumbled at my nerve,
I scanned the windows near;
The silence like an ocean rolled,
And broke against my ear.

I laughed a wooden laugh
That I could fear a door,
Who danger and the dead had faced,
But never quaked before.

I fitted to the latch
My hand, with trembling care,
Lest back the awful door should spring,
And leave me standing there.

I moved my fingers off
As cautiously as glass,
And held my ears, and like a thief
Fled gasping from the house.

[I intended to return from my long absence back to the lands of New Sosaria today, but alas, my attempts were blocked. I'm hoping it's just my ISP's monthly service break at fault and I can see you all as soon as possible. It has been all too long.]

Since I have been lurking around recently because of Effacrum development, I thought it opportune to greet the staunchest brothers and sisters as well.

Happy New Year, fellows! Looking forward to seeing you more often in the months to come. ;-)

By the way, great job, Djanno!

Ditto on the birthday bash from me! Was a blast. :)

Oh - like discussed, I now took the time to brew some potions for us. (I reek of mandrake and various other herbs and monster parts now...) Some blues and mega blues for the mages, mega and refined yellows for us fighters and also a hefty load of purples. They can be found in the guild chests, feel free to tap in.

If you have any extra mandrake, nightshade and hearts, for example, please donate to the guild so I may brew some more potions whenever I have the time. And when you travel or hunt, please pick up any raw glass and vampire dust, they are also needed and not too commonly gathered any more. Empty flasks and especially the reinforced ones are gladly welcomed, too.

Also some SL scrolls added. Have been a busy bee tonight! :smoke:

The Dark Hour by William Henry Davies

And now, when merry winds do blow,
And rain makes trees look fresh,
An overpowering staleness holds
This mortal flesh.

Though well I love to feel the rain,
And be by winds well blown --
The mystery of mortal life
Doth press me down.

And, In this mood, come now what will,
Shine Rainbow, Cuckoo call;
There is no thing in Heaven or Earth
Can lift my soul.

I know not where this state comes from --
No cause for grief I know;
The Earth around is fresh and green,
Flowers near me grow.

I sit between two fair rose trees;
Red roses on my right,
And on my left side roses are
A lovely white.

The little birds are full of joy,
Lambs bleating all the day;
The colt runs after the old mare,
And children play.

And still there comes this dark, dark hour --
Which is not borne of Care;
Into my heart it creeps before
I am aware.

Spirits Of The Dead by Edgar Allan Poe

Thy soul shall find itself alone
'Mid dark thoughts of the grey tombstone;
Not one, of all the crowd, to pry
Into thine hour of secrecy.

Be silent in that solitude,
Which is not loneliness- for then
The spirits of the dead, who stood
In life before thee, are again
In death around thee, and their will
Shall overshadow thee; be still.

The night, though clear, shall frown,
And the stars shall not look down
From their high thrones in the Heaven
With light like hope to mortals given,
But their red orbs, without beam,
To thy weariness shall seem
As a burning and a fever
Which would cling to thee for ever.

Now are thoughts thou shalt not banish,
Now are visions ne'er to vanish;
From thy spirit shall they pass
No more, like dewdrop from the grass.

The breeze, the breath of God, is still,
And the mist upon the hill
Shadowy, shadowy, yet unbroken,
Is a symbol and a token.
How it hangs upon the trees,
A mystery of mysteries!

The Voice of the Ancient Bard by William Blake

Youth of delight! come hither
And see the opening morn,
Image of Truth new-born.
Doubt is fled, and clouds of reason,
Dark disputes and artful teazing.
Folly is an endless maze;
Tangled roots perplex her ways;
How many have fallen there!
They stumble all night over bones of the dead;
And feel--they know not what but care;
And wish to lead others, when they should be led.

I have indulged in a talk with a mysterious fellow inside the place crowded by night and
was revealed this interesting peace of trivia. Let go of all attachment, you will get rid
of all the troubles of life. Thus I have wondered over this and once when I have acquired
the newest information from our contact in Tanelorne I have finally visited the reaper tree's
grove in the secret forest. I must say the mission was successful. Every reaper tree seemed
to appreciate all wisps for even more. And throughout the study of the weave pattern I have
performed, I could conclude that wisps upon a direct hit don't die, they are merely phased
out of this pattern web just as reapers do under previously discussed conditions.

At this point the scroll end's it's length.

Ahem... Well it seems that I'm back fairly regularly now. In the last few weeks I've seen Dolus, Stegos, and Neinar! I wonder if Aeryn ever appears? Eraamion is long gone too...

Hope all is well with everyone!
