RFC - pets
Time for a pet and/or taming revision soon. Post any specific ideas or requests related to taming and pets here.
some things on my mind and from my notes:
* all pets can lvl to 50
(either that and make demon lvl 50 with no devil stage, or all pets lvl to 75)
* teaching pets new abilities or spells
* pets wearing jewellry for buffs
* feeding pets food with same effects as players eating them
* buying stables for your house
* pet inventory
* taming is a drag? or is it
* let pets / party kill stuff for you for quests - including scripted 4 minos quest
* pet full belly hack for purchase??
* pet pokeballs - collecting pets
RFC means Request for Comments
here's some ripley pics ^.^

Re: RFC - pets
Could we have like a Pack mule pet non combative pet which is able to hold a specific amount of weight which you can have follow you through dungeons, with these pets yes they cannot do any damage but with these it would allow people to loot dungeons more without having to leave them regular.

Pets to carry their own food (that you give them), so they can feed themselves.

Re: RFC - pets
Groom pets to make them happy (perhaps it only gets them so happy).
Happiness of pet affects its abliities.
Able to manage spells on pet like get rid of their spells if you can affored them to unlearn them.
Foods items fed to it that could help pet evolve into something else/weird.
Pets affecting player happiness (??? not sure how that could work.)
A few more commands:
/heal (if the pet has the healing spell) forces it to heal you or allies similar to how healing ward does).
/magic means it attack only with magic
/melee means it engages only physically.
Pets evolving isn't automatic. /evolve if a pet can. Maybe we want a lvl 50 imp.
Questions about pet levels.
Has any DM tested exactly how powerful high level pets are?
Why is it when a pet evolves the new form doesn't say "Devil is lvl 1 instead of level 25" Some find it confusing to think that their evolved pet states it being such a level when in fact its only lvl 1?

- all pets to level 50 with evolve point at level 25 (so all pets can at most evolve once)
- allow any pet to learn from a set of abilities that have to be found (i.e., tomes), but have a "pet abilities" screen that allows players to only select 3 (or some number you like) to use, for example: (1) offensive ability A that the pet mainly uses to hit targets with, (2) offensive ability B that the pet uses less often - e.g., summons, and (3) healing ability that pet uses when it is half dead.
- given that pets are of many different shapes and sizes, i would recommend a set of pet specific items ... perhaps 3 item slots: (1) pet collar, (2) pet aura, (3) pet barding/armour
- i think pet feeding is fine as it is
- personal stables would be wonderful ... perhaps allow us to continually upgrade the number of pets we wish to store.
- i don't think a pet inventory is necessary unless you have a special pet item for storing items, how would we access this storage though?
- taming is fine as it is ... you can gm it in 1-2 days (hardcore) ... that isn't too bad imo (as compared to say tailoring) ...
- and yes ... please let pets help complete quests
- more pet focused addy items would be nice ... here are some suggestions: (i) the always wonderfully happy pill, (2) the pet res wand - unlimited usage, (3) pet avatars, (4) sanctuary stone - causes pet to appear/disappear, (5) some item that allows pets to level without leeching xp from players
- will pet pokeballs allow characters to summon/unsummon the pets? if so, why use stables at all ... unless these are very rare or maybe if they require addy coins ... but as trophies, i think they are good
* more pet upgrade items - at the moment, there is a taming wand, how about making newly created taming wands soul bound and introducing other soulbound pet items for the other crafting skills (especially those that don't serve much purpose atm)
* legendary pets - allow pets a small chance to evolve into legendary pets ... for example ... have a 5% chance of allowing an imp to evolve into a balron, and a 5% chance for a drake to evolve into a shadow dragon (these are just examples)

Re: RFC - pets
I'll keep this short since I like all the previous ideas.
-A way to make pets other than dragons useful, maybe by equipping humanoids or other pet upgrades.
-Spiked collars should be wearable by pets, also maybe human armor or specially made pet armor.
-A nice gold sink would be to pay for a second pet slot, this should be 1 million gold imo.
-We definitely need better melee pets, golems are ok but they can't be healed by priests.
-Higher level pets should be available through rare items or difficult quests.
-I always thought the max level a pet should be the same level as the owner (prevents low level players with dragons, encourages high levels to use pets).
-It would be very cool to mount your pet and have the pet still fight. Maybe allowing mounts to be taken inside of dungeons and towns using your normal walking speed.
-Being able to breed pets and keep more pets would be very nice, perhaps add breeding as another skill or use the taming skill.
Btw Ripley looks like a cool cat, I hope the surgery went well.
Edit: Added more ideas. Pet surgery is expensive, I'm glad Ripley is doing well!

the surgery was from 2004 when she had a benign fatty scar tumor seal off her small intestine and it cost me 1200$ to get it removed - she survived and is about 10 yo now :3

Maine coon? I had two of those once. They often have extra toes and that brings good luck.
Re: RFC - pets
yeh she looks and acts and sounds somewhat like a maine coon (from what I've read) but that would be unusual since they are uncommon in australia and I bought her from the pound

Re: RFC - pets
Just wondering... will ALL companions be included in the pet revision? I want my golem to get to higher levels as well, and if it can learn spells, then I'd gladly keep it and not buy me a drake off of LaughingCoyote - no offense, LC, but Mrs.Pickles is my biznitch.

Re: RFC - pets
How about being able to use one of your alts as a "pet"? There would have to be restrictions to the max lvl of char that could be used as a pet. Also the player using a char as a pet should be higher level than the char being used as a pet. If you wanted to change up your pets's gear you'd simply log on to that char and do it. The spells the pet would have available to pick from to cast would be the ones on their key binds.
I dunno, maybe this is a bit of a extreme idea. I remember posing it a long time ago and thought i'd repost it.

Re: RFC - pets
I'm still trying to wrap my brain around some non hunting uses for pets. I mean besides packmule, look cute, and guard dog; what else is possible?
Maybe some pets point to secrets via some sort of coding text:
ie. Murphy whines... (you're near a secret door or location of a treasure via cartography?
Pets with rage? go absolutely beserk if they get unhappy.

Re: RFC - pets
a pet that runs from all evil mobs and won't fight but will res you if you die
pets randomly dig up odd items
you can give coordinates to your pet and it would go to that location
you can possess your pet and travel around and fight as it (perhaps as spell ability or scroll)
you can polymorph onto the same form as your pet for a limited time
pet can collect item drops for you from kills or chests
Some pets could evolve into 2x2 mobs, if the bugs could be worked out of it.
perhaps at high taming you gain one ability from your pet that your pet has that you don't. Like walking on mountains or breathing fire or a spell ability

Re: RFC - pets
Current weaknesses of Pet taming:
1) Only a few high value monsters for pets. Almost everyone has and only have firedragons as their preferred pet. Having more monsters/pets with more specialisation - as healers, mules, etc would be awesome.
2) Pet taming should lvl even when not actively taming new pets. Currently taming requires you to grind through lots of monsters to get to that final fire dragon. No incentive to keep your mino shaman as a healer even if you did want to have one as a pet. See # 1.
3) Limited pet slots.

Re: RFC - pets
I've learned on pd that healing mobs can be crucial to some builds.
Allow buffs to affect pets like:
UM - Fortify
VUM - Greater Fortify
S - armour
VS - Greater Armour
EU - dexterity buff
SJ - protection from poison and disease etc..
true sight
Invisibliity
Potions like purple, brown, lime, new food buffs.

Re: RFC - pets
Nice idea here: Pet Classes that give the pet access to spells/abilities later on.
ie. I give my Golem the class of "Healer," and I can now buy him spells that heal hp or cure poison upon him reaching certain levels.
Class Ideas for Pets:
Healer: Uses restorative spells, maybe some priest spells.
Guardian: Pure strength with abilities and no magic like a fighter. Good for a mage companion?
Sorcerer: Uses offense spells - like a mage.
Battlemage - low mixture of Guardian and Sorcerer
Battlepriest - low mixture of Healer and Guardian
Magician - low mixture of Healer and Sorcerer.
