ships:

still plugging away. what I've done:
* pilot can create a ship and drive around, xit ship - use ship in a bottle item to make the ship
* anyone can board a piloted ship (with ctrl-b) and go whereever the pilot & ship takes them - this makes them a passenger
* passengers can alight anytime onto land with ctrl-x
* pilot can alight and remove ship using ctrl-x


todo before release:
* combat - cannons (w/o ammo) and ship's HP, ship sinking
* logging in when in passenger status but there is no ship or the ship has moved
* what to do with the passengers and ship when the pilot disconnects
* ensure can't create another ship when already pilot/passenger
* ensure anyone can't use TP on ship
* ensure pilot can't use recall, raft or anything that moves him
* ensure passengers can recall & use raft safely (w/o corrupting ship)

much further into future:
* ship building (maybe, maybe they should just cost 10mil gold)
* different ships
* ship's inventories
* upgrading ships
* naming ships
* NPC enemy ships (pirates)
* instanced battle screens for when not using guns
* boarding other ships

How about a giant Earth Elemental? Basically mobile mountain semi-humanoid in shape that can:

- Cause earthquakes.
- "Stun" opponents (like mace special move).
- Summon earth golems.
- Summon zorn.
- It's movement is not affected by earth terrain.
- Is hampered by bodies of water.
- Could be immune to lightening cuz it's "grounded" ;-)
- Chance it could melt back into the earth if it fears it might die.
- Chance it could splinter into earth golems instead of dying.
- Something else?

What about the NPC ships attacking players who fish on the coast? Sounds a bit nasty! Turn your head for a second and BAM! You're decapitated by a cannon!

I also believe that the largest ships should have a massive amount of HP so that a shot from the cannon can insta-kill a player fishing on the coast, yet 1 shot wouldn't sink a ship.

And make ships immune to XC! You can't "kill" a ship... not that I'm aware of anyway. VF should still work quite nicely though, burning away at the wood that created the ship. It would also give mages a reason to use VF again instead of just mainly XC and VOG.

Re-using some of the ships code, I've implemented simple mounts. currently limited to horses, there of course be many types of mounts with different speeds and attributes. I think the main purpose of mounts would be to show off but the way I've done it now they give no slowdown at all on different terrain and are faster than walking.

Got a few details to tidy up but the fundamentals are done and working. Didn't feel like ships today.

work on ships has stalled ... almost finished mounts - just have to do wav specification for the horse's gallop sound. Mounts can be anything as long as there are tiles made for it. Raft has been redone as a mount. Added flying carpet and horse. Mounts can be sea, land or air (raft, horse, carpet for example). They could also be dragons, crabs whatever. Not really interested in specific examples.

Also did huge code cleanup renaming all my classes :--;: - that was a no brainer, just took a long time. Going away for the weekend so no more euo till monday my time.

well I never said anything about ridable pets

did some work on chests ... mimics a lot tougher on higher level chests, also trapped chests will unhide rogues

having trouble staying motivated ...

Finish and deliver something then take a break? Are you trying to do too much then getting overwhelmed? When was the last time you went out with friends, had a good time, forgot about EUO, and for how long?

You don't have to answer any of these questions, just something to think about.

A side effect of doing this is that now you can't have a blackrock or venomous weapon above +6; meaning Skullybones won't be getting that venomous claymore VOG, unless someone already has one :-S

only specific mounts I've made are horse, carpet, raft and cow - I'm just saying the engine side is done

euo: just changed the house key formula so that any key opens your house lock as long as it's your house - mite take me a while to retrofit it in after patch

last couple of days been wasting a lot of time playing Civ 4 ...

anyway I have completed visible critical hits - ie when you hit or are hit by a crit, you see it - it is a orange splat And the combat message say there was a crit. Something I wanted to do for a long time but needed a rewrite to the combat func interfaces ... what a drag

other misc changes complete:
* an corp on a corpse makes a pet zombie, like res scroll on corpse
* crit rates for u/a are up
* qp time is up to 5 sec

still doin ships ...
