You're better off training taming and getting a dragon. I have a level 25 crystal golem that's been buffed by a taming wand and he has about 560 hp. He does ok damage but nothing like a dragon. His MR doesn't seem to cut damage from offensive spells at all. Basically, he's only good as a meatshield (crystalshield?) and since monsters target the highest damage dealer he isn't even good for that anymore.

None of the craftable golems have anything near the MR of wild golems, that or monster spells really cut past MR, either way most craftable golems are useless.
