As many players, I think a night feature would be pretty cool. I have a idea that in my opinion is appropriate, and, I think it's not hard to make.
A translucent dark blue layer over the map should do good. Also, it should slowly fade between the hour. Also, the same thing could be done with sunset, but with a light orange translucent layer.
Here is a example (sorry for not being the original tiles):

Re: Night Feature
There already is a day/night cycle... do you mean this suggestion for like the twilight, in-between time?
Re: Night Feature
No no, I mean the "graphical" night.
Like, also changing the graphics and color, not just vision range.

I like it! I think an orange-tinted sunset would be especially cool.

Re: Night Feature
Or a closed up strong tint around every block except for the ones within 2 tiles away from you to indicate fog.

Re: Night Feature
I'd imagine with Allegro, it won't be much trouble to do some sort of color shift for these times. A nice blueish tint at night would look pretty awesome, I'd bet.
Colored lighting in general could be pretty interesting. Torches could give everything a faint red/orange tint as well.
