Happy new year!

Just updated the hq2x scaled sprites to include the bong! You can download the whole package from my dropbox here.
A comparison between regular 16x16 sprites and the hq2x scaled sprites with 32x32 pixels can be found here.

For some reason the 32x32 pixel tileset switches my fighters avatar from the red cape bandit to the regular one.

Here is the new version of the hq2x sprites. I hope the rogue-avatar looks correct now.

I tried adding the new tile set, and I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but the water on items with diagonal corners like this is showing up as the standard pink background.

Grue
make sure the pink is exactly 0xff00ff - ie red=255 green=0 blue=255
Having the same problem. I'm editing the .png file in photoshop. Photoshop saves the colour value as ff00ff instead. There shouldn't be a difference, unless EUO treats them differently?

I was having this issue as well. Double checked that it was exactly 255,0,255 for the pink, and it was. Just seemed to not work anytime I altered a file and saved it, or moved an altered copy into the pics folder. It only seems to allow the original or an exact copy of the original to show transparency.

I used paint.net. Seemed to work fine.

it was because they files were saved as 32 bit pngs rather than 24
there might have been layers involved too

if using photoshop, use 'save for web' and select png 24 with no transparency

I am not sure if someone already mentioned it (I believe Keighn did): Josh Steele is working on his U4 tileset again, including a HiRes 32x32 version. Josh's original enhanced u4 tileset is the foundation used in EUO and XU4.
The tileset can be download from github.

I took some time to get rid of a lot of black around the edges of 95% of the tiles on this one. It's the 32x32 that you uploaded via HQ2X. There were also a few tiles that needed some black where there wasn't any at all. (the res stone tile (merchant token as well)) was recoloured completely and a shit ton of black taken out. you can always replace that one back with the origional one. I'm working on more, but this is the first one.

gah damnit. the fuckin file is too big. that irritates the shit outta me...

EDIT: fuck photobucket too..

i gotta say tho, taking out some black and just cleaning up the edges has made a vast improvement. i like it. i will be doing the rest of them, but am having issues with the ones like shadow/blood warriors/mages. I can't see the "tails"? that they have to actually do it correctly. so i may need help with those, or may just skip them big fuckers... anyway. enjoy.

I am using JASC Paint Shop Pro 9.x (PSP) - not the Core version !!! While it is from the past it still holds up IMO and I deem it more user friendly than Gimp or Photo Shop. PSP comes with an program called Animation Shop which I use for animated GIFs. You probably find a lot of online services for GIF creation. You can also use video capturing like fraps to make a video and convert that into a gif using gfycat.com.
How do you clean up the black border? Paint Shop Pro, and most likely Gimp and Photo Shop have similar features, has the option to expand or shrink your selection by a defined amount of pixels. What I tried yesterday was to remove the pink background and yellow grid, replacing it with a complete black background. I then selected the black background and reduced the selection by 2 pixels. What was left in the selection I turned pink again. The result was mostly satisfying.

your way sounds hella easier. i use Paint.net and i use the pencil, and go in 1 pixel by 1 pixel and literally hand shape them all down to where i think they ought to be.

I always kind of missed the old tiles, not that I don't appreciate all the art work that's been put into the new tile set/ hi res tiles. I just think they had a flow that was really nice. I think it's because they have so much negative space, the transition between terrain tiles looks less jarring. Also, it cant hurt to give people more options, right?

also, seeing no other trees besides evergreens was triggering the fuck out of me.
I took the old tile set, updated a few tiles, and popped em in where they belong on the new sheet.

Thanks to LC and Emo for helping me iron out the transparency issues!

Is there a way to make the overlay into a 32x32 tileset?

I tried to copy it, double the size, tinker with making smoother borders on the weapons, then saved it as overlay.32 (figured it'd be similar to the btiles##.32) but it doesn't load similarly when switched to 32x32 mode ingame.

My apologies, I meant the file "overlay" that has all the weapons that are shown in hands.

The rondels are starting to drive me bonkers with the way they glow in my hands.
