32x32 tileset - UPDATED

Post by eggmceye »

The top 2 tilesets are the official tiles and what you see should always be up to date as they are linked straight from the patch directory.

default 16x16 set
Image

Image

OUT OF DATE / NO LONGER SUPPORTED
These have have incorrect size and layout.
old 16x6 'black background / dotty ultimaish' etc - correct layout
btiles20.o.png

estorrath video blue set
btiles20 blue.png

how to use
* the 16x tiles file must be named btiles20.png
* the 32x tiles file must be named btiles20.32.png
* back up your old files
* save the png in this post into you euo/pics directory - ensuring it is named correctly
* keep a backup!
* feel free to make mods
* if euo patches then both btiles20.png and btiles20.32.png will be overwritten so I hope you made a backup!
* NEW - to actually enable the 32x set in euo there is now an option in the graphics display options in the f12 menu

Where the hell is Extell, dolus, sharigan, and some of the others? I can't imagine tackling all those tiles, though I admit the extra detail is astonishing.

Hey Egg and McEmo,

I tried adding the new tile set, and I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but the water on items with diagonal corners like this is showing up as the standard pink background.

I'm completely new to trying this out, so if I missed a critical step to ensure that the water showed up correctly, please let me know.

Thanks,

Grue

The new tiles sets look absolutely stunning in game. I look forward to additional tweaks and twists on our classic favorites. Keep it up you two.

make sure the pink is exactly 0xff00ff - ie red=255 green=0 blue=255

Ok, I spent all day messing around. I copied pasted from a few of our local euo sources including a bit from eggs(btw he has some really awesome wall variations. Some are from Rusty, an alt version of u4, emo's work, lemonope, and others I may not have mentioned.

Just give me a few to find a hosting site to upload a link as its too large to post.

Some things I don't really like:
Water edges in relation to other tiles... looks just terrible. It doesn't blend together at all. There's have to be dozens of new tiles/tilesets made to fix this.

Rivers underground look bad.

Signs don't look too well with all the grass. Same can be said about buildings as some are in deserts, ice plains and stuff not grass.

Can't see forest tree trunks. Needs some work.

Desert from dry dungeon earth looks too close to each other. IMHO.

Really like emo's tileset but there are a couple of things that could do with a little touch up.

Foothills look really out of place (in Deja Vu at least)

Some of the tiles don't sit terribly well beside each other particularly diagonal grass/water and diagonal water with a curving water shown at the nord part of deja vu. Also mountains placed vertically look a little off because off the black at the top and the grass at the bottom

As has been mentioned things like cow skulls, fences and gravestones would look better if they were treated as items so they don't have a default background that doesn't fit in with maps although this is engine-related rather than tileset

Overall very impressed though, well done guys!

Changed a few things including putting in the lady guardian statues (even though their color is horrible imho). 3 slight alterations including lighter colored water from one of lemonopes versions.

Simple Fix

Bigger Fix

Lighter Water

Now with Lava

Remember to rename files as btiles20.32.png

when there is a high amount of black the sharp edges in the water work(NICE WATER!!! btw) but its very odd in new water with the filled in ground ( still a really cool tile set)
all i want is a test server for maped then ill be happy ...

Only problem i see with this is in CoS with dark, deep dungeon then there is a sign with a patch of grass like it should be in a field or something. I dunno, to me it looks out of place. :?

Wow, looks sweet.

I can imagine EUO actually looking really good (In comparison) if ever a full 32x32 set were made.

Thanks everyone for 32*32 tiles.
What you see below was my poorly attempt to toy around with those tiles.
What I changed are the walls with blood and moss, the animation of the water tiles, the lava tiles, I added some grass to a lot of landscape tiles and some more stuff.

Open my computer
Open drive your euo is installed upon
Open your euo directory folder
Open pics folder
There are tiles labelled btiles20.png, btiles21.png, btiles22.png, btiles23.png, btiles24.png, btiles25.png
place the 32x32 files in the pics folder.
Maxe sure the 32x32 files are labelled btiles20.32.png, btiles21.32.png, btiles22.32.png, btiles23.32.png, btiles24.32.png, btiles25.32.png

The .32 files can be removed any time if you want to see the original 16x16 tiles.

*NOTE: IF PICS ARE UPDATED IN A PATCH, THEN YOUR 32X32 TILES WILL NOT BE UPDATED.

EUO Enhanced in 32x32:

Image
updated 2015/10/26

Credits kinda outdated - most furniture maptiles are by egg now.

If you feel like using the set make sure to rename the file to btiles20.23.png and save it to x:\..\euo\pics\
Furthermore if you find problems please send me a pm so I can change the set asap.

Edit:
2010/05/18: I made the sprites sharper, now they should look better on larger screens. I fixed some bugs aswell
2010/08/22: added farming supply sign
2011/09/22: wow haven't updated this for a year and a month. Added the couch
2012/05/23: added a new lava animation and fixed some other stuff
2014/05/16: Compatibility update to work with the most recent game updates and using egg's furniture maptiles
2014/07/08: Compatibility update
2014/08/30: resized and updated
2014/09/06: added reflection in the mirror and hole in the ground

The old 16x16 just appeals to me more. Perhaps i'll try the 32x32 out, just for fun, but the "basic quality" tiles provide much nostalgia to the days of playing on my older sister's Atari computer before I was even in school.

Memories...

EDIT: And how the HELL did you get 32x32 sprites? I'm such a noob :-(

this looks great
did extell really make the floors?

also makes me want to fix up that static furniture such that it doesn't have the black base but rather an adjacent floor tile
