NG build ideas! Now with more skills!

Postby 1[WoWz] » Thu Oct 03, 2013 7:54 am

The No Grind (NG) server has a stat cap of 1000 (it is automatically doubled to 2000). The CLASS skill cap is limited to 425 for humans and 350 for non-humans. Non-class skills such as healing, meditation, weaponsmith are unlimited.

The way I choose builds is to decide if I want to play human or non-human and then I pick what my primary offense (a weapon, sorcery, or necromancy). After that, you can pick an I will pick a secondary offense (another weapon, sorcery, necromnacy, or divinity), defenses (tactics or block), and/or utility (magery, traps, sanctity, bonecrafting, traps, stealth). Some skills fall into multiple classes. Finally I will determine if I need/want healing in my build (50 necromancer for soul transfer, 30 piety for mani, or 20 sanctity for heal).

Below are some simple build ideas that are pretty new player friendly. I choose 30 piety a lot for self heal but if use potions, go vampire, use vamp weapons, or heal another way, put the points somewhere else.

Current featured builds
All around fighter - Human - 90 longswords, 100 traps, 100 divinity, 80 sanctity, 30 piety, 25 tactics (snake aspect + barbed claymore VF)

Fighter (Dual wield) - Half-Troll - 40 Maces, 90 Longswords, 100 Divinity, 90 Tactics, 30 Piety

Fighter (Fighter treasure hunter) - Skeletun - 40 Maces, 90 Longswords, 90 Divinity, 100 Traps, 30 Piety

Skill overview
skill (useful break points) - Usefulness of skill on NG server.

blessed maces (90) - Not as good as Maces since you can't use tank stance or berserk stance.

maces (90) - Not bad, consider getting 90 in longswords as well for Flurry.

polearms (90) - Bloodbolt is a weak special, get 90 in axes for Cleave.

longswords (90) - Flurry is a good special especially when paired with a barbed weapon.

axes (90) - Cleave is very good special that can be used to kill very strong single targets.

unarmed (30, 60, 90) - Lots of special abilities and fast attacks make unarmed a very nice skill but can't be used with shields/block.

staves (90) - Usually paired with sorcery or necromancy because of MR Cleave but can't be used with shields/block.

ranged (50, 90) - Lots of special abilities and a variety of weapons makes this a very nice skill.

foils (50, 90) - Parry/riposte and useful specials makes foils a nice skill.

shortswords (50, 90) - Dual wield for everyone, useful specials, and backstab damage if you level up stealth makes shortswords a great skill.

hexblades (90) - The specials give bonus damage based off of Int, bone hexblades increase magic and physical damage, and they can be used with shields/block.

necromancy (50, 80, 90, 100) - 50 skill gives you soul transfer and bonus hp with bone equipment regardless of Int, above that requires int for high damage spells.

sorcery (60, 70, 80, 90, 100) - Lots of variety of high damage spells that all require high Int to be useful.

divinity (40, 80, 100) - 40 gives AMT (bleed spell), 80 gives summon sword golem and banish (gets rid of summons/clones), 100 gives VAMT (AOE bleed). Int not required.

piety (30, 40, 80, 90, 100) - 30 gives the very useful heal self, 40 gives heal other, above that isn't that recommended unless a dedicated healer. Int not required.

magery (50, 60, 70, 90, 100) - Unlock, speed, paralyse, lighter load, summon dragon require Int. Soul trap, greater light, recall, invisibility, greater invisibility, clone, polymorph, summon daemon don't require Int.

sanctity (20, 60, 70, 100) - 20 gives you heal, 60 gives yeti aspect for slows, 70 gives seize, all of it is useful and doesn't require Int.

tactics (any) - This is a good skill to put extra points in, helps reduce damage and increase attack strength.

block (50, 100) - 50 block gives shield bash and higher up helps block physical damage and reduce magic damage, doesn't work well with staves or unarmed.

locks (none) - I don't recommend this since there are skull keys, bone skull keys from bonecrafting, unlock spell, and weapon bash ability to unlock.

traps (none, 100) - If you want to survive cartography, phase beast chests, and dungeon chests, you can take 100 traps, eat blue dragon meat, or find other creative solutions like town portals.

stealth (100) - I can only recommend stealth with shortswords at the moment since it gives backstab damage, the movement is slow until 90/95/100 though.

bonecrafting (100) - You could make a non-hunting alt that has this to gear all of your characters with bone warez.

I've been thinking about NG a bit lately and last night was even contemplating playing it.

Anyway here is an ancient, outdated manual page ( that was part of the original wiki so it was a freeforall editing it)

http://euotopia.com/manual/index.php/Class_Ideas

Also don't forget: crafting & misc skills are not counted towards the cap.

Human Rogue
Stats:
Str:244
Dex:731
Int:25

Skills
GM Stealth
GM Ranged
GM Shortsword
30 Piety
70 Traps

Would have just gone Gnome for the dex bonus or even half troll for the healing and dual sling bonus but I like using Backstab and ranged so had to go human. Also on NG with the hp code that Egg wrote my rogue right now has like 800hp and is around 500-600dex so will probably be around 1000-1200 hp when its all said and done.
EUO the only game you can kill a Dragon while butchering his dead brother at the same time.

I'm reviving this thread because brainstorming NG builds is usually more fun than playing. :knife:

Bloodkin or Dwarf
878 Str
97 Dex
25 Int

100 Blessed Maces
100 Tactics
70 Sanctity
30 Piety

True, but it helps the casting for piety. Fighter weapons for stances isn't a bad idea though!

Also, it makes it easy to get any blessed mace up to +6 using divinity, then switching to another skill later. Kinda cheesy X-D

i thought piety/divinity wasn't effected by weapons. cast rate is the same. (i thought)

Maybe you're right. I know it impacts VM cooldown, but that wouldn't be applicable to this build anyway.

EDIT: fixed VAM to VM

Getting back into NG, which means more build ideas. Here is a tank build that would work on NG, Regular or PD.

Dreadnaught Build
Human, 90 maces, 100 block, 100 tactics, 40 piety, 70 necromancy (for PD or Reg you'll have to choose 30 piety and/or 50/60 necromancy)
878 str, 97 dex, 25 int

This is the perfect tank for a party or paired up with a high dps, squishy teammate (like a glass cannon mage or necromancer). The strategy is to run into a group of enemies, battle roar to draw aggro, soul transfer on the highest threat target to regain the HP you begin absorbing while stunning the target, your rage builds from being attacked so thunderclap to crowd control the mobs after soul transfer wears out. You can heal yourself, heal teammates, command death on a teammate so if aggro switches, it buys some time.

Gear choices
Barbed Mace of Leeching +3 (would be ideal but probably rare) or Blackrock Mace +8/+9 or Addled Mace +8/+9 or Barbed Mace +8/+9.
Any artifact shield (especially Sentri Shield) or Blackrock Tower Shield (defense if you fight a lot of blood warriors or MR for heroic dragons).
Crystal Shardcrystal gear or Medium or Heavy armor of MR +4/+5
Bone Belt of MR +4/+5 for extra HP
Bands are great but any jewelry of MR +4/+5 otherwise
Sigils of MR +4/+5

MR goals: 2625 will make you resist all heroic dragon attacks besides red dragons (you need 3000 for that).

If you want a higher single target DPS build, axes are the way to go for cleave. Between soul transfer and cleave, you'll be doing decent single target DPS even if you keep tank stance on.

Another build idea for NG, Evil Trickster.

Human, 100 Necromancy, 100 Magery, 100 Sorcery, 100 Traps
25 str (more if you want to carry a little more + extra hp), 25 dex (more if you want to move a little faster), 950 int (one stat to rule them all)

Note on stat gear, I suggest having as much raw int as you can and getting the str and dex that you need from gear. The reason is, feel good and angel fish give a bonus based on raw stats, so with a higher raw score, the more bonus you'll get.

This is a standard glass cannon build with the ability to open chests via the unlock spell and the traps skill. On a server like NG, you need all the loot you can get. Playing as a mage is straight forward enough, VOG for AOE damage vs groups, IJO for single target damage against mage mobs, XC for some sustain and high single target DPS. Necromancy brings Soul Transfer for more sustain and crowd control, corpse explosion for more AOE damage against groups, and a Death Missile for a low mana high single target DPS spell.

Gear choices (mostly budget choices)
Blackrock Staff +8/+9 (adamantium is better or go with vampyric and/or leeching for more sustain)
Eye of the Beholder, Philsopher Stone, Carved Skull/Orb/Rod of stats or vigour +14-+16
UA stat gear or vigour +14-16
Bone belt of stats or vigour +14-+16
Bands or other rings of attack +8/+9
Amulet/Anhk/necklace of attack +8/9
Sigils of attack +8/+9

Necromancer on steroids build:

human
100 hexblades
100 necromancy
100 traps
70 magery (for unlock, speed spell, and lighter load)
30 piety

25 str, 25 dex, 950 int (25+100 dex after speed spell, great for melee damage ratio)

Gear setup (budget oriented)
Bone Athame +8/+9 (a backup hexblade and/or staff with leeching +3 is a good idea if low on mana)
Philosopher's Stone (Gold) (+health and +8 vigour) or a Blackrock Shield of Def +6/+7 or Vigour +15/+16 or MR +4/+5 or stat +31-+35 or Bent Buckler/Superior Shield/Ancient Heater/Sentri's Shield
Silk Nightslayer Shirt (from scavenger hunt)
Silk Adept Cap (from scavenger hunt)
Gold Leather Leggings of Vigour +15/+16 or MR +4/+5 or stat +31-+35
Gold Leather Gloves of Vigour +15/+16 or MR +4/+5 or stat +31-+35
Bone Belt of Vigour +15/+16 or MR +4/+5 or stat +31-+35
Dragonscale Boots of Vigour +15/+16 or MR +4/+5 or stat +31-+35
Gold Ring of Attack +8/+9 (x2)
Gold Spiked Collar of Attack +8/+9
3 Sigils of Attack +8/+9

Int might be a better choice if using blue potions or you can switch to melee when out of mana. The build above requires testing to further optimize. Don't forget those angel fish!

If concerned about weight limits, ditch the light armor and go with UA.

Experimental theory-craft melee build
Half-Troll, 90 hexblades, 60 magery, 50 necromancy, 100 traps

Str 94
Dex 740 (+100 from speed spell)
Int 166

Weapons Bone Athame +9 and Vampyric Krys of Leeching +3
MR +4/+5 Light Armor and +attack jewelry

I feel like you need more int to make the melee build viable. The special abilities Necromancers use are based on INT if I remember correctly. I feel like the original Necromancer build with more int would be superior.

What bout having half INT/DEX and then the 10% STR you would need for the proper ratio. That might do a bit more damage via special abilities and such.

Just my $0.02.

Current build I'm tinkering with -
100 UA
100 Sanct
100 Traps (for solo hunting)
70 Tactics (AS + Damage Reduction)
30 Piety (Mani Spammer).

Thinking more on having the traps skill, I believe one could eat blue dragon meat, and that should stop any insta-zap death traps. I think that's the worst anyone would run into when using maps. If one does this, I feel like I could get rid of the traps skill for 100 Tactics and possibly 100 piety.

Just trying to keep the topic alive heh.

With 50 necro you get 100% soul transfer which isn't based on int.

Here is very high DPS melee build:

Human, 732 str, 243 dex, 25 int
100 Longswords (flurry for the DPS)
100 Tactics (more damage dished out, less received)
100 Divinity (aoe bleed, banish, summon sword golem)
70 Necromancer (+7% HP with bone belt, soul transfer, command death on party members)
30 Piety (mani for sustain)

Strategy
Choose which stance that's appropriate, rush into a group of enemies with claymore readied, battle roar if partying and the main tank, cast VAMT for AOE bleed, Soul Transfer on the highest threat target if needed, Flurry once you're done to clean up the mess. Use your sword golems if you like them, don't use them if you don't like them or if you are partying. Banish summons and clones, don't waste time attacking them unless you want to build up rage for your next fight. If possible, use berserk stance during fights and heal while walking between fights, it maximizes DPS since healing during fights wastes time.

Gear
The best weapon that would be easy to get is a blackrock claymore +8/+9. Other choices include an addled (if you want a tiny bit of crowd control), adamantium (if you can find it), runed (the quicker rage bar probably wouldn't be worth it), copper (if you can't stand the slow attack speed).

Heavy armor is the best for the extra MR, but if you already have plenty (unlikely), consider running Medium for a tiny increase in movement speed. All MR gear is probably needed but attack jewelry and sigils would give a huge boost to DPS. A single piece of vigour gear +14-+16 should be enough.

Tink mentioned that running 70 Sanc insted of 70 Necro is a valid option and I agree. 70 Sanc would give Yeti stance and Sieze over the HP bonus and Soul Transfer of Necro. Both are valid options but I personally think sieze isn't nearly as strong without dwarf infravision.

Well, that's true. Though siezing ranged and spell casters from behind obstacles is always a huge plus. And there's always charge for hamstringing without it.

After some testing, Tink and I have found probably one of the strongest builds on NG. This is capable of destroying heroic dragons even with low level gear.

Human str 878, dex 97, int 25 (maces and polearms) or str 732, dex 243, int 25 (swords and axes)

100 fighter weapon (Maces for more str/hp and AOE crowd control, Swords for DPS, Axes would be redundant with the AOE bleed from divinity, Polearms only if you really really like them)
100 tactics (more AS and reduced damage)
100 divinity (VAMT is an amazing AOE bleed that will help with clearing even when using tank stance and banish for those pesky clones and summons)
30 piety (mani will help heal between fights or in the middle of fights if needed)
70 necro/sanc/block (necro for single target lock down via soul transfer/bonus hp from bone belt OR sanc for utility with sieze and yeti stance OR block for more tanky and a stun via shield bash)

Now if you're like me and want to open cartography chests, dungeon loot, and phase chests without blue dragon meat, you'll want 100 traps. After much debate, I'm going with the build below.

100 fighter weapon
70 tactics
100 divinity
100 traps
30 piety

Budget gear choices
Blackrock weapon +8/+9 (2 handed most likely for zerk stance)
Heavy armor/belt str/dex +31-+36 (gold tint preferred, stat gear is most likely better unless you can hit the 2625 MR point for resisting most heroic dragons)
Dragonscale boots vigour +14-+16 (one piece of vigour should be enough)
Rings of attack +8/+9 (gold if possible)
Spiked collar of attack +8/+9 (gold if possible)
Sigils of attack +8/+9

Other things to consider
Cooked red dragon meat is amazing against heroic dragons, try to eat this to avoid going tank stance.
Always have on scrolls of protection (resisting green dragon poison wind), greater scrolls of health (more HP), scrolls of galvinsing/fountain feels great (free stats).

If you want to try NG but don't have gear, I highly suggest this build. It is very possible to start killing heroic dragons about 2 to 3 hours after creating this character with just starter gear.

Axes on NG with cleave are mostly useful if you just want to cut def and MR in half on the mobs (shadowlords etc) If you're just really into hunting them. Solo, thunderclap and addled do nicely for mixing up unfriendlies. I do say I like mirror image for the fighter/monk types. I can't recall whom I was partying with that did well utilizing mostly summons of various sorts.

NG build idea: Tanky Necro

Human
25 str
25 dex
950 int

100 Necromancy (this is your damage output)
100 Tactics (this is to reduce incoming damage)
100 Block (this is also to reduce incoming damage)
70 Magery (For these amazing utility spells: Unlock, Soul Trap, Greater Light, Speed, Mark/Recall, Invisibility, Paralyse, and Lighter Load)
30 Piety (For heal self since it compliments tanky builds so well)

Bone Hexblade (this will add 10% to your magic damage but this isn't a melee build)
Tower Shield (very important for blocking melee attacks and reducing magic damage)
Any armor you want with plenty of vigour (could be UA, light, med, or heavy, depending on how much carry weight you want to sacrifice)
Bone Belt (this will give you a nice increase to your HP)
Attack Sigils/Jewelry (this is the best option)

Summary: The reduced damage from tactics and block will compliment your high MR. Your damage output will be good although not as good as if you were using an Adamantium Staff +9. Carry weight and movement speed are bad but your magery spells will help you with both of those. Your HP will be low but your bone belt will help a bit.

I added a simple list of builds on the first post of this thread. I will add more and probably format them better. If you have any build ideas, feel free to contribute.
