yo

I don't like how the LOTL PD ladder encourages nothing but grinding - made worse by the fact quests don't give xp.

so I think for March the ladder rankings will be based on one of the following (assuming it's still new chars only)

- most quests completed
- most skill% gained
- most mines dug??
- most bounties collected???
- most treasure chests dug up
- most nightshade collected :nightshade:

the scoreboard may not be updated for a few days however - but march is grinding %skills month :aus:

I have an idea.

At the start of month, one of following ladder winning conditions would be randomly choosen: experience gained, skills gained, quests completed, <insert something esle here, like most mines dug>, or average from all of above conditions. Now here's main difference between current ladder and my idea - winning condition would be unknown to the players untill the end of month.

Why to do this? To add more diversity to ladder. You can't repeatly make same thing over and over(not matter if it's crafting, hunting or digging mines), but you have to think about everything, and therefore such competition is less boring and more unpredictable.

Maybe it's not great idea, but I think it's worth consideration.
It's always funny until someone gets hurt. Then it's just hilarious.

that'd be cool -- or ladder not visible at all until 3rd week, "he beat me with 10 fucking taming!!!!" a whole month of skill grinding seems a little bland to ME, 2wk ladders with 1 stone prize I'd like to se

So if those ideas were to be implemented does that mean the ladder board has to be updated to reflect those numbes like how skills are now up there?

Hen, I think that is genuinely interesting ... but I think there is a basic flaw - the ladder is basically a very long race, and a race has a goal, and it's a good idea to know where the goal is so you know which direction to travel.

It would be a strange race where no body knew which way to go. But I think in this case, if it the goal was either xp, skills, quests, and it was secret, then all of those 3 things would be the goal because ppl would try and cover all of the bases. In which case to achieve what you wanted, you would have to make up new and devious goals every month.


Paul: I think 2 week ladder would be more interesting actually, or maybe weekly to just make it easier to track??


I think the ladder is cool but have to consider what message you are sending. I'm not sure the skills one was such a good idea.

only real flaw with the skills ladder is this:

Humans can remort and take 100% in 2 classes while humanoids only 100% & 75% Humans for the win.
Fighters and Rogues have more class skills than priests and mages. Human Rogue/Fighter for the win.

Base it only on crafting skills and the playing field is even. NG separates class and crafting skills.

Also, you can buy skills in University as Lotl.

Not the greatest of idea's, But maybe go back to how it was at first? Most exp gained in a month? Non-lotl, But make it to where quest exp doesnt work, Or quests disquallify's you? And help from other players dq's you as well. Only difference from lotl and this, Is you can buy from merch's/use banks/buy from player merch's. I dunno, I just liked that idea since i took part in like, The September ladder.

I posted somewhere else the flaw with skills -- a fighter rogue can come out with about 1.8k not even crafting! I think skills AND XP averaged together would be ok -- but just skills like I said, a fighter has the greatest advantage, and if it's a month long..the odds to tie are so great that in the end it comes down to who is human and who is not. a mage doesn't have a chance in hell(not that we want them to win or anything X-D )

Man I was perusing the entire thread and noticed I was a total asshole. I cleaned up some posts and apologize to Eidolon, Raiden and FatAdam for being a prick.

Anyways, its pretty lonely for the ladder and I'm disappointed that emo quit it when he was ahead. Maybe one of these months LOTL is PVP to get those competitive peoples out here to hunt what doesn't act with monster AI.

really think there should be a basic system for ladder, including level and skills, biased more towards level but skills giving a boost..skills literally only go so far, and if there were more serious competitors everyone would be human fighter/rogue or fighter/priest -- only viable solution would be counting level towards advancement, or short terming it (any others evade me)

doesn't matter what system you use, it will get min maxed - but also this month it goes without saying it will go to the char with the most XP if two or more chars have tied for skills %

but I'm glad to have done the experiment - might do quests completed next month

was thinking just a number:
basically levels increment this number by .25 and skills 1.0 or something, so skill grinding is still advantageous but leveling isn't excluded, person with highest <number> wins

might just be me but for a permanent death there should be emphasis on grinding to be rewarded any kind of prize
